Dear Darcee, I was at your goal setting presentaiton at A.R.E.S. It was cool. My teacher is sending you my dream but here it is....

I want to be a zookeeper but I don't like animals in captivity. I want to cycle across Canada just like you, but I want to raise money to build a huuuuuge area for animals to live in. If I can't do that I wan't to be a famous singer.

That must take amazing will power to do anything like that. Both the training for the Olympics and the biking across canada. You should really try for a triatholon. It's very impressive what our bodies can do when the mind keeps pushing.

Hi Darcee, Ryan from BCIT sent me your web address. WOW, I was bug-eyed with amazement when I got here! I printed your journal onto paper so I could read it on the couch haha. You have no doubt attained a level of personal growth and inner strength that takes most of us a life time to acheive. I'm so impressed.

Ryan spoke of you wanting to take up ocean kayaking. I would enjoy very much introducing it to you. Or at the very least answering any questions you may have. Ocean kayaking is simply a mode of transportation for getting one out into coastal/lake wilderness as apposed to the rushing thrill of WW. But if you love the water and travelling in the outdoors ocean kayaking is guaranteed to bring absolute bliss. :o)

My website displays my hobby of nature photography. I have many kayaking photos in the kayaking section though. Feel free to drop me an email anytime. Geoff www.geocities.com/seapaddler

Congratulations Darcee on successfully completing your journey! You have truly achieved a remarkable feat.

Also, I wanted to congratulate and recognize the contributions of your Mom and Dad, sister Bridgett, and partner Doug, who undoubtedly were a tremendously important source of support during the tour!

Finally, I'd like to extend a personal and sincere thank you for all that you have done to improve the lives of Canadians with SCI. Cycling across Canada in the manner that you did enabled you to create a new awareness of the SCI experience among those people who were fortunate enough to cross paths with you this summer, transforming what was once a distant and remote concept into a meaningful experience with lasting significance. In short, your journey has touched the lives of many, making the SCI experience real and bringing it home to the average Canadian. The effect and value of the encounters you shared with supporters along the way cannot be underestimated.

Again, congratulations to everyone involved with this amazing journey! I look forward to learning about your next adventure.

CONGRATULATIONS! CONGRATULATIONS!

Dear Darcee, Heartfelt congratulations from the McDonald family on achieving your dream Darcee and for hanging in there on all those tough days when everything seemed to be going wrong. YOU'VE MADE IT, and that is something to be VERY PROUD of and treasured for the rest of your life. Not only have you helped and inspired countless people, but you have seen our grand country of Canada like no one else has, from the seat of a bicycle on your own pathway, and you will be a better person for it. Best wishes from us all, Auntie Penny, Uncle Don, Scott and Joule. Enjoy the last few days, rest up and have a safe and happy journey back to British Columbia where your friends and loved ones await you.

Bridgett -- Congratulations on making the trip during the last 3 weeks with Darcee, for being there for her and for sharing her dream. Your support and love have been appreciated by everyone, especially Darcee and your mum and dad. Your presence enabled her to carry on I'm sure. I'm so glad you were able to join her for the last part of her trip, a journey neither of you will ever forget. Enjoy your last few days together, have a safe trip home, and give my love to Ulf, Christopher and Jennifer.

MUCH LOVE, from Auntie Penny XX00 -- a kiss and hug for you both

P.S. I've tried to FAX this message for the past two days (to the hotel) but have just got "circuits busy, try again." I'm sorry you couldn't have had this message on paper. P.

Hello Darcee. I don't think I've biked 100 Kms in my life and yet thats the distance you cover on a daily basis. It seems like only yesterday that you pedalled thru Regina and spent the night at my parents place. Actually it was two months ago today that I had the opportunity to meet you. That other guy that is also raising $ for your same cause came thru Regina last week. I would imagine your paths crossed at some point of your tours. You are one brave and courageous gal and I admire you more than words can say. PS The Zebra man was on the front page of the sports section today. He was umpiring a ball game and made a "You're Safe" call.

I remember when you first mentioned that you wanted to ride across Canada, and you didn't get alot of positive response but you pursued your dream of raising awareness for Spinal Chord research and showing people that have suffered spinal injuries that they can still achieve there goals and to never give up on life just like you have never given up ever since your accident. I'm looking forward to your return where we can set new goals and dreams and achieve them together. I thank God for watching over you. Darcee, I feel that today we should be giving a GOLD medal to your Mom and Dad for all their hard work in coordinating the tour and cheering you on your long journey. Way to go Barbara and Brian! Although Darcee has done the lion's share of the work - your efforts and time spent have been much appreciated as we watched from the sidelines! God Bless you. For Darcee! Keep on the journey. As I have watched that red line whip across Canada it brings tears to my eyes to see what you have and are continuing to accomplish. Many in the Guest Book have mentioned that you should write a book. I am sure from reading your daily journals that you probably could do that. I hate the weekends as our news of you doesn't happen so fast. But on Mondays I am back on line checking your progress and diary. Remember that I am praying for you and wish you well for the remaining days of your journey. AnnJ

Dear Bridgett,c/o Darcee, I wanted to ad to Darcee's guest book a signing for you Bridgett. How wonderful for you to have come all the way from Sweden to support your sister on this Tour. For you to have left your children, Christopher & Jennifer and husband Ulf for 3 weeks is quite a sacrifice-but the benefits are many. There is nothing so precious as a "sister bond". To have had this time together is a "blessing". Thanks you to Ulf, Chritopher & Jennifer for supporting you and in turn they supported Darcee. I am very proud of you Bridgett. You made and brought with you a flag for Darcee and T shirts for you both. Your creativity is amazing. I wish I could be there to hug both you & Darcee as you cycle into St. John's. I will be with you in "love" and "spirit".

All my love, MUM

Darcee -

I got a phone call from your mom today, and she told me about your website. I'm thrilled that your cross Canada ride is doing so much to raise awareness of spinal cored injuries.

When you spoke to me this spring about your idea, I was worried about the scope of the incredible challenge you were giving yourself. Seems like I need not have worried. I'm proud to say I know you.

Let me know when you get back to Chilliwack.

Keep on riding!

Darcee,

Keep up the great work. Your ride across Canada to raise awareness and funds for spinal cord research is a great inspiration.

I understand you have fought back from a potentially tragic accident two and a half years ago. Not content to sit back, you worked hard to get past this and taken to the road to benefit a fine cause.

Your commitment is reflected in the very nature of your ride – hauling 160 pounds of gear on your bike without a support vehicle that would make things a little easier. I’m sure this independent struggle is much like the one people suffering with spinal cord injuries go through every day of their lives.

I hope your ride can help raise the funds necessary to lessen that burden for some. Good luck and keep up the inspiring work.

Sincerely, Chuck Strahl Fraser Valley MP

We had talked to you at Orphan Lake (160 km North of SSM) on Friday at 6:00 p.m. You gave us your card and the web address and we have been anxiously checking it to see how you made out. That was some day on Saturday from Agawa to SSM is approx. 130km!! with rain and lots of "De nada" hills. Good luck on the rest of the trip. Charlie & Linda Whitfield

We spoke to Darcee as she was having supper at Orphan Lake (160 km North of Sault Ste. Marie on Friday July 2 around 6 p.m. She was hoping to make Sault Ste. Marie to-day but it rained all day so that may have slowed her down -- that section of road is brutal for cycling. Good luck Darcee.

Hi Darcee, I read about your endeavours in the West Kootenay Weekender today. I am an avid outdoors enthusiast, often expressed through kayaking and hang gliding. I have had my share of "mortality checks". A friend of mine broke his neck body surfing in India. Like you, he was also fortunate to recover from his accident. Locally (Nelson) Jason Draginda and others have shown incredible courage. I applaud you in your efforts to raise awareness and donations for spinal chord research. Keep up the good work! I'll go surf a nice wave for you today! Sincerely, Tyson Ehlers

8k km is further than I'd want to ride on a motorcycle in a single trip...pretty impressive that you're doing it on a bicycle. Don't forget to pick some wildflowers.
