The flight home!
I am actually going home! Today on the 16th, I am flying
first class arranged by my wonderful partner, Doug. The grand awe of such an amazing dream
has come true and it is nothing like I had expected. The enormity of it has still not sunk
in. As I peer out the little window that shows what I have accomplished, it is hard to
take my eyes off the landscape below, knowing that I traveled relentless hours in the
wind, rain, heat, bug infested, long roads, facing the elements that I could not escape
until I was finished for the day. All of these thoughts were running through my head and I
wanted to tell everyone what I had done, but I sat in silence fighting the tears and
laughter of the events that took place this summer.
Me and my sister.
My eyes are still wet from leaving my big sister in
Halifax. I am so grateful that we had time together to get to know each other again.
Bridgett has such a sweet heart and it chokes me to think of how much she cares for me and
the sacrifices she made leaving her family to be with me. I am very thankful that she made
the choice to come to Canada because I really needed her. I know and appreciate that we
will never have that quality time ever again. I have learned that we are from the same
blood but we are so different. We are identical with our strength and determination to
complete a dream and to follow our hearts. It is so special to think that we are on
opposite ends of the world but were able to meet in the middle and in the end, I go west
and she goes east. We are both so lucky because we go home to people that love, care, and
support our hearts and ambitions. I extend many thank you's to my big sister, I am honored
to call you my big sister...I have always been honored!

My Mom and Dad
Without the two of you, what could I have done? Mom, when
you first took on the position at tour headquarters, you accepted with not a lot of
confidence but I had every confidence in you. You proved yourself to be impacting to the
tour with your professionalism and enthusiasm to be the best that you could be. It shows
in the work that you have done. Across Canada, countless people have expressed what a
professional and heartfelt job you did. Many people told me that you were the reason for
their decisions to contribute to the tour. So I want to thank you for everything that you
did to make this dream of mine come true. My strength comes from you. I appreciate that
you supported me right from the begining and saw me through to the end. I felt you with me
the whole way across our beautiful country.
Dad, I am amazed by you! Your wonderful letters of support
and encouragement was very motivating. I have sensed a change in you and I think that we
have both grown form this Cross Canada Tour. It must have been difficult for you to see me
travel alone. I know that you were worried but we are both warriors, so there was no need.
Thank you for all the countless hours of work you contributed and sorry about all the
countless hours you were unable to sleep. Your support of mom and I is greatly appreciated
and forever remembered!
My Partner (Pookie)
My best friend, soul mate, and future husband, I thank you
for supporting me and my dream. It takes a lot of strength and confidence to support a
dream that requires a temporary separation between the two of us. You have proven over and
over again the love and respect that you hold for me and it means so much. My thoughts of
you and Teddy filled my days as I cycled across our very large country. The thought of
having you waiting for me at home was very comforting and strength building. I enjoyed so
much the time we had together from Ottawa to Quebec City, it was so much fun. Thank you
Pookie!
Reflection of the success of the tour donated by
the people of Canada
The Atlantic Provinces were everything that I dreamed they
would be. I officially ended my tour in my heart along the coast of the Irish Loop. I came
to a point in the road when the tears blurred my vision to the beauty that was presented.
As the sun set over the mountains, an awesome reelection of orange and pink scattered upon
the pounded smooth rocky beach. I laid my bike down to touch this beautiful scene of color
and powerful crashing water before me. I walked slowly toward the beach watching the sore
muscles in my legs carry me to the end of my dream. My eyes and heart were fixated on the
sun set and the sound of the crashing waves and this is when I realized what I
accomplished. To me the tour was over, this is what I had come to see. I can not describe
the amazing blue ocean, much different than the Western waters. It was a different feeling
as I dipped my tires into the St. John's Harbor. The volunteers from the Canadian
Paraplegic Association in St. John's made the end of my tour so very special. I was led by
a police escort to a marching band and a wonderful finish line I greatly appreciated
crashing through. All the volunteers, I thank you!
I was very blessed to be greeted with Newfoundland
hospitality to the fullest capacity. I found along the road, warm smiles with hands full
of donations. The interest in my story was overwhelming including headlights to safely
guide my way as the sky grew dark. I met a lot of people who asked "Aren't you afraid
to cycle across Canada alone?" My reply was, "I never felt alone!" The
people of Canada were my friends and kept me company. I felt safe and well taken care of.
My needs were always met and my fears were cleared from the warmth of the people I would
meet. I do not want to give individual thank you's because I do not want to leave anyone
out.
On the last day of my tour, I was very blessed to meet a
young boy, Chris and his family in the Halifax Hospital. Chris was in a diving accident
which left him confined to a wheel chair but with the courage and strength that he
carries, I believe that he will have an excellent recovery. I can not thank Chris and his
family enough for giving me the greatest gift and compliment I could ever receive. He said
that I made a difference. That is all I wanted from this tour. I just want to make a
difference and help and reach out to as many people as I can. Thank you Chris for
everything and to everyone else that has touched my heart.
There is a special thank you I would like to extend to the
IIAS staff, Erik and Mike. Without the International Internet Advertising Services
sponsoring the web site, I really do believe that the tour could not be as successful. A
BBBBBIIIIGGGGG... thank you!!!!!
Also, thank you to News Media for following my story, it
was fun! |
